The Glass Castle - Front Cover

Here is the front book cover design of Jeannette Walls' memoir "The Glass Castle" that I did for Professor Vargas' Graphic Design Principles II class.

The memoir is written through the author's own eyes as she is recounting her life; beginning with her childhood and culminating in her departure to New York City where she would have a very successful career as a journalist and columnist for various media outlets. It reflects upon the struggles faced by the Walls children due to their irresponsible parents and the unhealthy lifestyle they were being brought up in. The memoir goes into the growing complexity of the relationship that she had with her parents.

It's a book that I do recommend.

As for the book cover itself, the professor had instructed us to not use the Adobe programs to make a book cover but to do it by hand, believe it or not. Me and my classmates had to build a box and use anything that we thought was useful in the creation of this book cover. It was labor-intensive and once we had our box completed, we had to bring it to class so the professor could take photos of it on his camera and give us the files on our thumb-drives so we could edit them a bit and if we hadn't done so, to add the name of author and the title using Photoshop and Illustrator.

This was just one stage of our final project and I'll post the rest at another time.
